Fikret Sebilcioğlu Addressed at Özyeğin University on Fraud Awareness - March 2017

The "Fraud Awareness Seminar - University Meetings" was held at Özyeğin University on 27 March 2017 in cooperation of Özyeğin University Business Administration Faculty and ACFE Turkey. The topic was "The Impact of Occupational Frauds on Companies and Solution Suggestions on its Detection and Prevention".

According to the 2016 Global Fraud Study published by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), occupational fraud costs organizations 5% of revenues each year. Occupational fraud is a universal problem. Each day, employees with different levels of authority cause financial damage to their organizations by committing different types of occupational fraud. Mostly, fraudsters’ unethical behavior is influenced or triggered by the corporate culture of their organizations.

It is almost impossible to predict whether or not an employee has tendency to commit fraud. However, the management may make it harder for fraudsters to commit fraud by controlling their business environment, and defining these types of actions inacceptable according to the norms of the business environment.

The topics of discussions were included the types of occupational fraud, the cost of occupational fraud for organizations, the detection and prevention of occupational fraud, and the recommended code of ethics and compliance culture for organizations.

The program of the seminar was as follows:
