In his remarks to Karar newspaper, Fikret Sebilcioğlu emphasized that fraud is not limited to the direct misappropriation of funds, but encompasses a broad spectrum of risks extending from supply chain activities to accounting processes.

Addressing various aspects—from the scope of internal fraud and its cost to organizations, to employee profiles and the role of internal audit and data analytics—Sebilcioğlu stated:
“Internal fraud, in its simplest form, is when an employee deliberately misleads their employer or knowingly fails to fulfill an obligation in order to gain an unfair benefit, thereby causing harm to the company.”

Emphasizing that fraud does not only manifest as direct cash loss, Sebilcioğlu added:
“It can take many forms, such as asset misappropriation, fake or inflated invoices, conflicts of interest, undisclosed relationships with suppliers, manipulation of records, and the misuse of expense and approval processes. Therefore, the scope of fraud is quite broad.”
