The views of Cerebra Founder and CEO Fikret Sebilcioğlu on social media, cyber risks, and social engineering attacks were featured in Para Magazine.
Social media is no longer just a communication platform; it has also become an environment actively used by cybercriminals and social engineering attackers. Small details shared by employees—often unintentionally—can reveal critical information about company structures, roles, travel plans, or the systems being used. For this reason, social media awareness is not only a cybersecurity issue; it is also a matter of ethics, compliance, and fraud risk management.
In his assessment, Fikret Sebilcioğlu stated:
“Today, people openly share the companies they work for, their job responsibilities, travel plans, meetings they attend, daily routines, and even the applications they use. While each piece of information may seem harmless on its own, when combined, they can lead to unexpected consequences. For example, an employee may share their role, authority level, and projects on LinkedIn. The same person may post vacation photos on Instagram. Another post may reveal the company’s systems, organizational structure, or business partners. For fraudsters, this information is extremely valuable. This is because attacks are no longer random; they are highly targeted. Fraudsters can impersonate company executives to send fake payment instructions, manipulate finance teams, or obtain passwords and authentication credentials from employees.”
